Response to Text Questions
If you could trade places with one of the characters, which one would it be, and why?
I would want to trade places with Charlie because I would like to see how his mind works and what all goes through his mind.
Was there a character you didn't like? Why didn't you like this character?
I didn't really like Charlie's sister, because she wasn't the nicest person and you really didn't know what would come out of her.
What do you think was the best part of the story? Why?
I think the best part of the story was when Charlie helped Patrick in the fight because it showed that he was a true friend and really cared about Patrick.
Did certain parts of the book make you feel uncomfortable? If so, why did you feel that way? Did this lead to a new understanding of awareness of some aspect of your life you might not have thought about before?
There were three major parts that talked in a lot detail about sex and I kinda felt out of comfort zone. I felt that way because I have never really been a fan of intimate descriptions like that or if someone is telling me a story like that, I try to ignore that because I don't want my brain filled with that and I know that God and my parents wouldn't want me to be exposed to that either. I have always been aware of things like that and I know that sex at a young age isn't good, I know what there are teens out there that do that and get pregnant and I really wish things like that wouldn't happen.
How are you different from one of the characters? Explain.
I am very different from Charlie, I am a freshman but I don't go out and get drunk and go to parties and have sex with anybody. I know what him being a boy he doesn't have to worry about getting pregnant and carrying a bay for 9 months, but it's still not right. I try and be as modest as I can because I know that's how God wants me to be. Charlie and I are very different from each other.
Do the characters seem real and believable? Can you relate to their predicaments? To what extent do they remind you of yourself or someone you know?
The characters do seem real and believable because I know that there are teens like that out there that do those things. I cannot relate to them nor do they remind me of myself. I do know people like that.
How do characters change or evolve throughout the course of the story? What events trigger such changes?
Charlie changes throughout the story, he first starts out being shy and then as the story goes on he starts drinking and smoking. I think the first party he went to is what set everything off in the rest of the story.
Would you like to read something else by this author? Why or why not?
I would like to read something else by Stephen Chbosky because I think he is a really good writer and his stories flow, but I could really do without all of the sex scenes.
