Questions Regarding Banning
4. In what instances would censorship be acceptable?
Some instances where censorship would be acceptable if the book/movie isn't appropriate for that person because of the material.
6. Is censorship in schools a good thing?
Censorship in schools is a good thing because not everybody in middle/high school is mature enough for the material that is being discussed.
7. Is censorship in libraries or other government buildings a good thing?
It is good thing because they have to know when the amount of uncensored material is enough for that section of the building. In the children's section, you obviously aren't going to put books in there that talk about sex/drugs, but in the adult or older section you could because they would understand it.
8. Is it necessary to ban books from certain settings?
It is necessary, because if they are reading a book for school you can add some uncensored material but you need to know when enough is enough because its for school. If you are reading it t just be reading it then you have to use your own judgement.
9. Whose duty is it to determine what is acceptable or unacceptable?
I think for a child it is the parents job to decide what the child can expose their mind to and what is appropriate for them. For a teen/adult they should know what they can handle and make that decision for themselves. They have to decide how mature their mind is and what they want to expose their mind to.
10. Are their certain topics that should always be taboo?
I don't think they should ALWAYS be taboo but it just depends on the person and what they want to read. Whether or not they want to read about sex/drugs/violence is completely up to them or if there is a book about God and that person doesn't want anything to do with that book then it could always be taboo to them. I don't think it would be fair to make certain topics taboo to everybody. It all depends on whether its age appropriate and what you believe in.
